YUNNAN

Diqing, the northernmost Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, is located in the southeast edge of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and in the hinterland of Hengduan Mountains. This is Shangri La, a place of eternal peace and tranquility hinden in the mountains in the East, which was described by James Hilton, a famous British writer, in his novel The Lost Horizon. It is said that Shambala is deep in Diqing, where there are not only glaciers but also "three parallel rivers' at the foot of snow mountain. The high altitude enables you to walk “through” four seasons in one day. The rice field with the highest elevation can harvest both white rice and red rice. A dozen ethnic groups live here, providing with a glimpse of all the diversity of customs in Yunnan.
